Rural landscapes: Eternal rest in an epic landscape

OLD TRUCKS, ATLAS COAL MINE, NEAR DRUMHELLER, ALBERTA

Old vehicles are a favourite photography subject and I really loved this pair, hanging out in a gloriously snowy western Canadian badlands landscape. The colour version has only blue and rust, so I created what is, to me, a more dynamic black-and-white version.
Atlas Coal Mine Historic Site preserves a mine that operated from 1936 to 1979. It is considered to be Canada’s most complete historic coal mine and is home to the country’s last standing wooden coal tipple, and the largest still standing in North America. It was designated an Alberta Provincial Historic Resource in 1989 and a National Historic Site of Canada in 2002.
