Natural landscapes: God’s marble game
RED ROCK COULEE, SOUTH OF MEDICINE HAT ALBERTA, CANADA
This is an amazing place. Giant red boulders are scattered everywhere, some mostly whole but many in various states of breakdown. It’s as if God played a game of marbles here a thousand years ago, then left the marbles behind.
What I like about this spot (besides the extraordinary photo opportunities, of course) is there’s pretty much no development — no gift shop and not even a washroom. It’s just you and the breathtaking Alberta prairies. And a whole bunch of amazing boulders.
Nikon D7100, tripod, polarizing filter, graduated density (darkening) filter on the sky.

Never considered myself a landscape photographer, but Red Rock is sure to inspire anyone, no matter what genre they prefer. It’s that good. Last time there, we shot on film!
Thanks, Chris. It’s a long way from home in Calgary, but definitely worth the trip. 🙂
I like places like that and that looks like a very special one. Nice capture. Oh, even a selfie in this picture 🙂
Yep, definitely a special place, John. And so non-touristy. 🙂
