Natural landscapes: deep goes the canyon
BIGHORN RIVER CANYON, NEAR NORDEGG, ALBERTA
I drove to this remote area in western Canada to photograph the sublime steps of Crescent Falls (which you can see here: http://wp.me/p2ccTX-WP) and didn’t expect to find a stunning canyon as well. So I spent as much time here as at the falls. I walked along the grassy ridge you see at the top centre-left and hung out with a hoary marmot. 🙂

Hi Frank. What a lovely photo. I live in Nordegg and really appreciate it when people come out to capture the beauty of my back yard. What you may not know is that this entire area surrounding Crescent Falls is under coal lease. It would be a shame for this amazing region to be changed forever should the pursuit of coal come to pass.

Thanks for the comment, Marla. Given the current Alberta government’s opposition to coal development, I don’t think you have anything to worry about. Even if there’s a change in governing party, I believe coal development would only return to those places where it’s currently being phased out.
